Neil Lennon is poised for a stunning return to the Celtic hotseat as replacement for Brendan Rodgers.

Lennon is due to fly to Doha on Bein Sports business on Tuesday, but is now expected to shelf that plan to pull together a new Celtic management team.

The former captain and manager quit the post in May 2014 after winning the first three titles of the club’s seven year run of domination.

Coincidentally, Lennon’s first game back in charge of Celtic is likely to come against Hibernian in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Celtic take on Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night but that appears to be too soon for Lennon to be on the touchline.

Lennon left his role at Hibernian on January 30 by mutual consent after initially being suspended by the club.

Rodgers said his farewells to Parkhead colleagues at the club’s Lennoxtown training ground on Monday, with a deal to succeed sacked Claude Puel at Leicester City all but agreed.

The Parkhead boss will take assistant Chris Davies, coach Kolo Toure and sports science specialist Glenn Driscoll with him. Celtic scouting chief Lee Congerton is also certain to leave the club.

The stunning departure of the man who led Celtic to seven successive trophies in two-and-a-half years will prompt the Scottish champions to restore former manager Neil Lennon to the Parkhead hotseat, with first team coach John Kennedy as his assistant and reserve coach Damien Duff assuming first team duties.

Pursuing an unprecedented treble Treble Rodgers initially planned to remain at Celtic until the end of the season.

Leicester City’s insistence on Rodgers moving now forced the issue, with Celtic fans left stunned by the pace of developments.
