Jason Tindall, who was sacked by Bournemouth last month, is a contender to replace Wilder
Tindall could be appointed on a deal until the end of the season which would see him work alongside Paul Heckingbottom, Sheffield United’s Under-23 boss.
Last month Tindall was sacked by Bournemouth after 31 games in charge, during which he won 13, drew 10 and lost eight. He was previously assistant to Eddie Howe from 2012 to 2020.
Sheffield United were thought to have sounded out Howe when Wilder was under pressure in December.
Blades CEO Stephen Bettis is long-time friend of both Howe and Tindall.
Wilder’s departure has seemed inevitable after disagreements and with the club struggling
Wilder is set to leave with the Blades bottom of the Premier League having taken just 14 points from 28 games.
Last season Wilder was widely praised for his work as he guided United to a ninth placed finish in their first season back in the top flight.
Wilder, who had two spells at Bramall Lane as a player, took over as manager in 2016 when the club were in League One.
Despite the club’s progression under his guidance, Wilder’s departure has seemed inevitable for some time.
This season the 53-year-old has had disagreements with the club’s hierarchy over recruitment and the state of the club’s training ground.
Owner Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is looking to appoint a director of football having not been particularly impressed by some of the signings made under Wilder’s guidance.
