Speaking of his contribution, Walker joked BT Sport: ‘I had seen the far post and thought I would put it in the back of the net.’

Before admitting: ‘No…it was a cross but we deserved a bit of luck with the way we have been playing.’

Walker has also reflected on Manchester City’s tactical changes this season, saying: ‘Obviously we have made a few changes from last season, tactically where we are pressing and how we are moving the ball around.

‘But I think since I have joined here we have kept the same philosophy, obviously the gaffer knows what he wants and has proved it over many clubs.

‘He has brought it into City and over the last four seasons definitely we have been very good and last season we just got beat by a very, very good Liverpool team.’

With the possession we had and the dominance I think they had one attempt after that.’

He added: ‘I found the bottom corner very well there! With the possession we had and the dominance I think they had one attempt after that.

‘We did well and the little breakthrough from my cross come shot was deserved.’
