Tottenham confident that Harry Kane could return in THREE WEEKS after numerous ‘positive’ scans following double ankle injury in defeat to Liverpool

  • Tottenham are confident striker Harry Kane will not be a long-term absentee
  • Kane has had numerous ‘positive’ scans and assessments since last Thursday
  • It is hoped Spurs captain Kane could be fit to return to action within three weeks

Tottenham are confident that Harry Kane will not be a long-term absentee following the double ankle injury he suffered in last week’s 3-1 home loss to Liverpool.

The striker, 27, has had numerous scans and assessments since last Thursday with the outcome of those tests ‘positive’.

It is hoped Kane could be fit to return to action within three weeks — but medics are understandably cautious about putting a definitive time scale on their talisman’s return to action.

Nevertheless, the optimism regarding Kane will come as welcome news to manager Jose Mourinho following consecutive league defeats.

Spurs have slipped to sixth in the table and were lacklustre without Kane in Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Brighton. Mourinho will hope the return of Kane rekindles their top-four bid.

Kane is set to miss Premier League games against Chelsea on Thursday and West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, as well as the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Everton on February 10.

But there is hope Kane could be available by mid-February — before Spurs face Manchester City, West Ham and Burnley in the Premier League and a two-legged Europa League tie against Austrian minnows Wolfsberger.

Kane’s likely return will also be welcomed by England manager Gareth Southgate, whose side start their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign next month.

There were concerns any significant ligament damage would leave the England captain doubtful for the games against San Marino, Albania and Poland, but Kane is now expected to be fit for those.
