Juventus 2-1 Torino: Juve now three points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan after late winner from Leonardo Bonnuci

  • Juventus now up to second in the Serie A table after beating struggling Torino

Champions Juventus scored with two headers in the last quarter of an hour as they came from behind to beat smaller neighbours Torino 2-1 in a dramatic Derby della Mole in Serie A on Saturday.

Torino stunned the hosts when Nicolas Nkoulou scored from close range following a corner in the ninth minute and could have gone further ahead before halftime.

But, as Juventus wore them down in the second half, substitute Weston McKennie headed the equaliser from a Juan Cuadrado cross in the 78th minute and defender Leonardo Bonucci grabbed the winner with an almost identical goal 11 minutes later.

The win lifted Juventus to second place with 20 points from 10 games, two ahead of Inter Milan, who were at home to Bologna later on Saturday, and Sassuolo, who visit AS Roma on Sunday.

Torino, with only one win this season, are 18th with six points.

“With all due respect for Torino, what they did in the first half was only because we weren’t switched on,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were so slow, lost every challenge, gave the ball away repeatedly. They threatened on the counter because we allowed them to.

“In the second half, we acted the way we need to in every game: strong into the tackle, move the ball quickly, players moving off the ball.

“We are men, that’s what counts. I don’t need to tell you what we said, but we all know that what we brought out of ourselves in the second half is what we need in every single match.

“It’s teamwork that allowed us to win over the years and we rediscovered that in the second half tonight. My goal allows us to win and feel more confident, but if we don’t bring out of ourselves that desire, that heart, that determination to overcome every obstacle, we can sit here talking all day and get nowhere.”
