Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford doubts for Man United’s trip to Southampton

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to miss their Premier League clash against high-flying Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Pogba did not train on Friday and is not expected to recover in time for this weekend’s tough test due to a different ankle injury to last season.

He was forced out of United’s last two matches with an ankle issue but Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that he is not set to be on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has another knock

While striker Marcus Rashford faces a race against time to be fit following a shoulder issue as Solskjaer provided an update on his list of injured stars.

‘Scott [McTominay] and Paul didn’t train this morning, they weren’t on the grass so look very unlikely for the weekend,’ Solskjaer said on Friday.

‘Marcus, Victor [Lindelof], Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] came through the session today so not 100 per cent.

‘Luke [Shaw] has just started his rehab, not out on the team yet, Jesse’s [Lingard] back from his isolation period, had a couple of days training and Phil Jones is out until after Christmas sometime.’

Marcus Rashford scored in midweek against Istanbul Basaksehir but may not play on Sunday

Pogba, who has flitted in and out of the side this campaign, was not in the squad for United’s 1-0 win over West Brom last weekend and missed out again in midweek when they secured a 4-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Rashford scored a penalty in that win in Europe and was substituted after 59 minutes.

Midfielder Bruno Fernandes scored a brace on Tuesday and Solskjaer has praised the Portugal star.

‘He does definitely have that presence and influence and impact on team-mates, just look at results since he came in, he’s got energy, leadership, a team player, he will be key for us going forward,’ he said.

‘Some players will have to sit games out, I wasn’t looking forward to telling Bruno he was rested against RB Leipzig, same as Marcus, but it was fine, it’s the culture of the team not individuals and Bruno has proved that over and over.’
