ECB launch new equality code of conduct as part of drive to improve inclusion and diversity in cricket
- New scheme is one of three initiatives designed to tackle discrimination
- An independent commission for equality has also been established by the ECB
- Moeen Ali’s place in the opening match for the South Africa series is in doubt
- England are contemplating using Adil Rashid instead as their only spinner
The ECB have set up a new equality code of conduct as part of their inclusion and diversity drive for the sport.
It is one of three initiatives announced by the governing body designed to root out discrimination at all levels.
It is to be enforced by all organisations operating under the ECB’s jurisdiction and the disciplinary process for breaches will be announced within months.

The governing body have also established an independent commission for equality, comprised of independent members and given the task of assessing evidence of inequality, then offering a constructive response.
A new forum for race will provide a confidential channel through which the ECB can listen to and learn from people’s experiences.
Meanwhile, Moeen Ali is sweating on his place in the opening match of the South Africa series — despite captaining England in their most recent Twenty20.
Moeen Ali may lose his spot in England’s first match of the South Africa series to Adil Rashid
Moeen, 33, led his country against Australia in September but Cape Town conditions mean England are contemplating using only one spinner — Adil Rashid.
That would mean Sam Curran at seven, behind Eoin Morgan and the returning Ben Stokes — although Dawid Malan, the top-ranked T20 batsman, could be sacrificed to allow more variety in the bowling.
