Liverpool‘s Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to undergo a scan on Monday after being forced out with a possible calf injury in their draw with Manchester City.

The right-back had to be substituted in the 63rd minute with a suspected calf problem, with James Milner replacing him.

Boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed he would know more about the injury after his scan but insisted it would keep the defender out of England’s squad for their upcoming fixtures next week.

The news about Alexander-Arnold deepens Liverpool’s injury crisis in defence as Klopp is already set to be without Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury while Fabinho is also currently sidelined with a thigh issue.

England face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly before taking on Belgium and Iceland in the Nations League but Alexander-Arnold won’t play a part in the games, according to Klopp.

The 22-year-old had hitherto played every minute of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign this season.

Klopp’s Liverpool secured a point without Alexander-Arnold in the second half at the Etihad.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gabriel Jesus netted a brilliant equaliser.

Kevin De Bruyne spurned the chance to put City ahead in the first half, pulling his effort from the spot wide.

The result saw Liverpool move up to third while City are in 11th position.
