Weight loss, Carbohydrates and Waist Circumference

While on a weight loss diet, many tend to go on a Low carb or a Zero Carb diet. Why?
Because for years we have heard that cutting down on carbohydrates is the most efficient way to lose weight.

However, it is not cutting down on carbohydrates, but the type of carbs you include in your diet which can help you lose weight and also sustain for a longer time. We should not forget that carbohydrates are the primary source of fuel for our body to function normally.

6 Good Carbs to include in your diet:
#Quinoa: These little grains contain high amounts of fibres which help keep blood sugar levels controlled. They are also packed with amino acids which help in muscle building.

#BrownRice: These contain more B vitamins and minerals like magnesium. They are also rich in dietary fibres and thus a smaller portion keeps you full.

#WholewheatPasta: Use your pasta along with proteins and a good serving of vegetables. It adds variety to your menu and is a source of complex carbohydrates.

#Chickpeas: One of the best plant sources of proteins and carbs you could include in the diet. Studies have shown that legumes such as beans, lentils and chickpeas keep you full for longer, thus prevent overeating.

#SweetPotatoes (patate): In spite of their sweet taste, these root vegetables are ideal as a snack or a staple for lunch/ dinner. They contains soluble fibres which regulate blood sugar and can boost up your metabolism.
Other local sources you may consider are manioc, arouille, fruit a pain.

#Oats: An ideal choice at breakfast to keep you full for a long time and provide you with micronutrients. However opt for wholegrain oats rather than instant oats.

What we need to understand is that more than a weight loss, it is fat loss that we require. There is no point losing weight in the form of muscle mass or water.

#WaistCircumference : Instead of focusing on your weight, measure your waist circumference. It is a better indication of whether you are getting lean.

My opinion on weight loss:
Take the time you require to lose weight, don’t rush through the process but instead go for something sustainable. It is motivation and self-discipline that will help you achieve your target.
