  • But a meltdown at the back saw two late goals conceded for a final 2-2 score line

Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht anguish has shown signs of continuing this season, after the Belgian giants threw a two-goal lead on the opening day of the season.

The club legend had his position restructured following the end of a disappointing first season, after withdrawing from his playing duties and being assisted in a managerial capacity by Frank Vercauteren.

And Anderlecht looked set to start the Belgian top flight season on a strong note, after taking a 2-0 lead away to Mechelen.

Jeremy Doku put Kompany’s side in the lead, before an own-goal from Rocky Bushiri doubled the margin.

Anderlecht cruised into the latter stages of the tie looking to take all three points back home, but for a late meltdown to ensue.

Two goals inside two minutes were enough to break Anderlecht hearts, leaving Kompany once again feeling the pressure in the hotseat.

Igor de Camargo found the back of the net on the 83rd minute, before Jordi Vanlerberge struck just two minutes later.

Over 10 minutes of additional time was played out inside the AFAS Stadion, but Anderlecht were unable to claw themselves back in front.

Kompany’s men begin the season with a solitary point on the board. They are looking to build upon last season’s uncharacteristic eighth placed finish.
