Frank Lampard‘s has taken the sensational decision of switching his goalkeeper for the final game of the season, with Willy Caballero replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea line up on Sunday for a crucial clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge, playing for a top-four spot and needing to win unless Manchester United beat Leicester.

‘It’s just a choice. Kepa has had some difficult times so I’m playing Willy,’ Lampard said as kick-off approached on Sunday.

Arrizabalaga and Lampard’s relationship has deteriorated this season, with the Spaniard dropped for four-straight Premier League games in February after a string of errors, as his poor distribution left the Blues vulnerable.

The change feels like a statement move from Lampard, with the Englishman determined to land a new goalkeeper this summer despite Arrizabalaga arriving for a club record £71m in 2018.

The Blues have been linked to Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Ajax’s Andre Onana, with the 25-year-old former Athletic Bilbao prodigy attracting interest from several LaLiga clubs.

Champions League qualification is crucial for Chelsea this season, hoping for a big step up in 2020-21 and to get the most out of their sensational signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

With more targets such as Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz to attract, Lampard can’t afford a slip-up against Wolves if he is to complete his revolution of the Blues squad.

The legendary midfielder also swapped in Christian Pulisic for the injured Willian for the clash, with the American on searing form while the Brazilian looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer on a free transfer.
