Hi Buddies! Lets start 2019 with this post.
Hiking in Black River Gorges National Park, this white-tailed tropicbird flew over me. The sky was grey (high altitude clouds) without much interest so I decided to take advantage of this neutral background overexposing it to obtain a white background.
When using a long focal lens (in this case 2x200mm) one should pay attention to the shutter speed: The general rule is using a speed equivalent to the focal length (e.g 1/400 sec for F=400mm). Such speed will compensate the shaking movement introduced by the photographer hand-holding the camera. This rule works pretty well with static subjects. Please note that a slower speed could be used with lenses that have vibration compensation.
For this picture, since the subject was moving very fast I had to increase even more the speed (1/2000 sec) in order to achieve a reasonable detail.
The picture is full color (no black and white conversion applied). I hope you enjoy it.

Exposure: f/5.6 at 1/2000 sec – ISO 100 – F = 400mm

Crop; exposure and tone correction; sharpening and saturation rectification.
