Today at Unesco World Heritage Site. Le Morne , Mauritius commemorated the 184th Anniversary of the Abolishment of Slavery. On this day we honour and remember the Maroon people. The Maroons were runaway slaves who found shelter and hid on the mountain to escape the hell of slavery. This is a tragic story , as the Colonial British soldiers advanced up the mountain with weapons in hand to tell the runaways of their freedom the Maroons feared they where coming to capture and force them back to slavery . Instead of this fate hundreds of men, women and children jumped from the mountain top to their deaths. They would rather die and be free rather than be face with the prospect of torture and slavery once more. RIP Maroons. Peace. #lemorne #lemornebrabant #slavery #anniversary #maroons #mauritius #mauritius🇲🇺 #explore #unescoworldheritage #honour #art #peace #blackandwhite #blackandwhitephotography #iphone #spiritual #home #vanillaislands #island #traveller #travel
