The Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, made the announcement, this afternoon, during a press conference at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.
Activities scheduled in primary and secondary schools on Wednesday 11 March 2020, have also been cancelled, and there will be no classes on that day, said the Prime Minister. Other events by different Ministries, such as the Carnival on 11 March 2020 in Port Louis, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, have also been cancelled.
These decisions, highlighted Mr Jugnauth, have been taken with the objective to ensure the safety of all children and the population, and following consultations with all Ministers, especially those involved in the preparation of National Day 2020 festivities and activities. In fact, he recalled, certain parts of Mauritius are already experiencing floods. In addition, weather forecasts predict that the situation will deteriorate, the more so, with the development of a tropical depression in the region and which will result in more rain and wind across Mauritius, he added.
