Republic of Mauritius- RGSC workshops to provide enhanced science pedagogy in classrooms

The workshops, an initiative of the RGSC, are also aimed at improving the pedagogical skills of Educators in the field of science and encouraging them adopt an inquiry-based approach while teaching science at primary and secondary school levels.

Several themes will be addressed namely: Teaching about the nature of science; Learning outside the classroom; and Holistic approaches to qualitative data analysis.  Participants will be secondary school students, Educators, Academics and Researchers. The resource person for the workshops, Mr Michael J. Reiss, Professor of Science Education at UCL Institute of Education, University College London, is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and Visiting Professor at the Universities of York and the Royal Veterinary College. Moreover, he will deliver a memorial lecture on the topic ‘Ethics in science education’. 

The RGSC is a parastatal body which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology. The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre Trust Fund was established in 1994 by an Act of Parliament with the aim of promoting Science and Technology, supplement school education through non-formal programmes and create awareness on developments in Science and Technology among the public.
