Republic of Mauritius- Health: Floréal mediclinic inaugurated yesterday

In his address, Minister Jagutpal highlighted that the good health of the population remains the priority of Government for a healthy society. The Mediclinic, he said, forms part of a series of infrastructural projects in the health sector, seeking to improve the quality of life of citizens. They comprise the new ENT hospital which is already operational; the construction of a new Flacq Hospital and a new eye hospital in Moka; and the upcoming inauguration of an Area Health Centre in Petite Rivière and Baie du Tombeau.

He added that this newly built facility equipped with modern equipment will help to decentralise the services of the hospital by providing medical, nursing, dispensary and support services at local level itself.

With regards to the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, the Minister reassured the population that all precautionary measures are being taken in Mauritius.  He advised them not to be scared as the virus is a human to human transmission and all passengers are undergoing manual and electronic temperature screening at the airport.  Individuals with symptoms of fever are being sent to Souillac hospital for 14 days, a period of incubation of the virus.

Also speaking on the precautions related to coronavirus, Minister Bodha indicated that all flights to mainland China has been suspended by the national airline, Air Mauritius, and only the two flights per week to Hong Kong have been maintained.

He pointed out that there are 14 Mauritians including a child who are actually at Wuhan and they are in good health. However, he stated, they would like to come back for safety reasons while adding that the needful will done with the help of French Government who is evacuating its citizens  from China. The Mauritian Government, he underlined, will bear the cost to bring these Mauritians.

For Mauritians living outside of Wuhan and willing to return to Mauritius, he indicated that they can contact Air Mauritius through a special desk which has been set up. As for Chinese tourists who are in Mauritius, he stated that Air Mauritius will also provide facilities to them and if theywant to extend their stay, the Ministry will look into the matter so as to provide the necessary support. 

Floréal mediclinic

The mediclinic will cater for patients in the area stretching from Dubreuil to Candos including Allée Brilliant, Cité Mangalkhan and Cité L’oiseau. It comprises consultation rooms, treatment rooms, waiting area for patients, Non-communicable diseases (NCD) Clinic, Day Care Area, Dental Clinic, Rehabilitation Area, Family Planning Clinic, and Ante Natal Clinic.

It will operate on a daily basis and the general consultations will start as from 16 00 to 21 00 hours.

On Saturdays and Sundays including public holidays, it will be open from 09 00 hours to noon.
