GIS– 19 July, 2019: The Mauritian National Football Team (Club M) played its first football match for the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) 2019, yesterday, against Seychelles at the New George V stadium, in Curepipe. The match ended on the score of 1–1. It was in a packed New George V stadium that took place the main match of the first day of football, Mauritius versus Seychelles. Both teams were content with a draw. It was, however, the Club M, coached by Mr Ackbar Patel, which opened the score just two minutes after the kick-off with a header from Ashley Nazira.

Despite dominating its opponent, the Club M did not manage to increase the score line. In the second period, the Seychelles were more aggressive and opened the scoring in the 67th through Colin Bibi. Club M’s next match will be against Madagascar on 22 July 2019 and the Mauritian team will look forward to obtaining its first win.
